How long do extensions last?

Some of them may last for a couple months while others may shed within a couple days. Let us explain.

All hair on your body follows a specific growth cycle and will grow to a specific length before shedding. Because each individual lash is in its very own growth cycle, it is perfectly normal to lose a few natural lashes every day.

Your individual lash cycle, combined with how well you care for the extensions will determine how long they last.

Having said that, with proper care and maintenance appointments every 2-4 weeks, your extensions can last indefinitely.

What is the application process?

The process should be relaxing in nature. After you lie down on the table or reclining chair, your lash artist will cover your lower lashes (with a soothing gel pad or a special tape) to protect your lower lashes during application. You then relax with your eyes closed. Many clients fall asleep during the procedure.

How do I care for them?

The more meticulous you are about caring for your extensions, the longer you can expect them to last

  • Do not get them wet for the first 24 hours (unless advised otherwise by your lash artist).

  • Use ONLY water based and OIL-FREE products around your eye area.

  • Wash your eyes daily with an extensions-safe cleanser to keep your lash line clean.

  • Dry thoroughly by blotting (not rubbing) with a towel or blow drying on a cool setting, then spin through with a clean mascara wand.

  •  Oil breaks down the adhesive bond. Creams and serums should be applied sparingly, and no closer than the orbital bone. Anything that hasn't been absorbed after 2 minutes can be blotted with a tissue or blotting paper.

  • Avoid using cotton swabs or pads that will leave lint and catch on your extensions.

  • Use of mascara or an eyelash curler is not recommended.

  • Use only water-based, oil-free makeup around your eye area. Ask your lash artist for suggestions.

  • Do not rub eyes or pick/pull at your extensions.

  • Sleeping on your back is the best position. Avoid sleeping on your face.

Is it safe for my eyes?

Eyelash extensions, when properly applied, are completely safe. The extensions are applied with a special adhesive that is similar to what is used in the medical field for suture-less stitches.

Will it damage my lashes?

When eyelash extensions are properly applied, they will not damage your natural eyelashes. Your natural lashes are always shedding and cycling back, the extensions should simply fall off with yours. The extensions themselves do not cause your lashes to fall out or become damaged unless your Technician is applying extensions that are too long or thick for your natural lash. Also, if your Technician attaches the extension to more than ONE of your natural lashes, and does not separate and isolate properly, it will cause damage to your future lash health.

What do eyelash extensions look like when applied?

They are literally an extension of your lashes. A skillful and precise application will ensure that there will be NO clumping and NO twisting. It will be a lash-for-lash application so you can expect perfectly separated, gorgeous lashes.

Can I wear mascara?

Most lash artists do not recommend their clients wear mascara over their extensions.  It can weaken the bond and cause premature loss of the extensions. You may wear water-based, non-waterproof mascara on the lower lashes, being careful when applying and removing. Waterproof mascara is NEVER recommended.

Can I use curlers?

Eyelash extensions do not require additional curling. If you are looking for more curl, ask your lash artist to apply a curlier lash. If you need to curl your natural lashes to blend them in, the only recommended type is a heated eyelash curler. Never use mechanical curlers.

Is it approved by the FDA?

The FDA does not currently regulate eyelash extensions, nor do they approve eyelash extension adhesive. If a company is claiming they or their products are “approved” by the FDA, they are sadly misinformed.

Eyelash extension regulations vary widely between countries, and even from state to state. In the USA, many states DO require you to be a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist in order to perform an eyelash extension service. NEESA was created in an effort to set the bar high and standardize safe and sanitary practices in an otherwise inconsistent industry.

How long does it take?

The average lash Full Set takes 2-3 hours. The average  Fill/Touch up takes from 1-1.5 hours.

How will I know what "look" to choose?

Your lash Technician should perform a thorough consultation before applying your Full Set to determine your desired effect and suitable lengths/diameters to use. If you would like to make any adjustments, you can advise your Technician of requests before or during your subsequent appointments.

What type of lashes do you use?

There are a few types of eyelash extension material available. The most common is synthetic mink and silk, which are made from Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT). Other options include human hair, and the controversial animal fur (mink, fox, and horse to name a few).
